Both alternatives are cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux), which is a big plus for me.

I like Picasa’s offline photo management tool, which is the main reason why I use their web-based sharing. =) I’ve used some Linux-based photo management tools as well (digikam, etc), some of which integrated with my Gallery2 installation, but Picasa’s pretty cool.
