The Gen Y Guide to Web 2.0 at Work

An IBM colleague asked me to put together a few tips for Web 2.0 at Work. Here’s something I had fun putting together, sketching it on my Nintendo DS:

Nice job on this sacha! I love it…

Sacha, this is great… very creative too, I didn’t even know you could do this kind of thing with a DS, very cool. It’s a well-presented message. Nice work.

Thanks, Andy. =) I’ve been sketchblogging from my DS - it’s surprisingly fun. Makes me want to save up for a full-size Tablet PC!

I’m getting so much use out of my Nintendo DS. I’ve been listening to conference sessions (yay MP3 player), reading text files, sketchblogging–and oh, taking care of a virtual kitten. (I miss my real kitty!) Not bad for something I got on sale.

Thanks for being one of the awesome IBMers who keep inspiring me! =)

I just picked up a Bamboo graphics tablet… so I hope to do this kind of thing myself, I’m just figuring out the best way to go about it.

This is awesome Sacha! Nice job! :)

Glad you liked it, Heidi! =) So, do I get to look forward to chatting with you over lunch again someday? ;)

Awesome. Very creative. And wonderful.

I’d love to do an interview with you for my blog. Interested?

Beth, that would be an honor! =) Please feel free to contact me at sacha@sachachua.com.

Yes! I have an emerging awareness that this is kind of what I have been doing and it is starting to work for me. But it isn’t super-direct.

I’m really lucky to have such awesome coworkers, I guess. =) The feedback was immediately positive. Good luck on your journey! What would help you be more effective?

Great work, Sascha … I have been pointing people to this all week and it has been getting a great response.

Gavin - thanks! =) I’d love to hear what they think of it. What kinds of questions or suggestions are you getting?

Created it with your Nintendo DS!!? I didn’t realize this was possible. My brain is buzzing with the educational implications–if I can learn how to get the drawings from a Nintendo DS to my computer. I’m imagining my students, sitting in their literature circles, creating these “sketchblogs” as a response to a text they’ve read. Wouldn’t that be great!

Would you care to share HOW you use your DS to do these sketches?

Sacha, very interesting take on web 2.0. I like the sketch blog idea, very creative.

Wow, thanks for all the buzz and the encouragement! =)

lhuff: Yes, I’ll write about my awesome DS setup in detail this weekend.

By the way, you folks might be interested in the incoming university student’s guide to Web 2.0 that I’m drafting in another post. I’d love your suggestions. I’ll sketch that soon, too. =)

Very creative presentation. Also, very informative and insightful. A lot of organizations are trying to figure out how to use Web 2.0 — and also how to meld the talents and experiences of Gen Y, baby boomers and everyone in between. This is an excellent guide.

Sacha, very neat. Saw a link to this from your Twitter entries.

Being 42, I still wish to qualify to follow your perfect instructions. Fortunately, Carol Rozwell of Gartner Group, who’s apparently a bit older than I, talks about “Gen V,” which she says includes people of all ages, who get and engage in Web 2.0. When I joined IBM in 1996 as a web producer, I just barely qualified as Gen X. Now, I’m proud to have graduated to Gen V.

Great take on genertaion Y in the web 2.0 workplace. It is enlightening to get this vision from this generation in IBM.

Glad you liked it! I’m thrilled to get a chance to connect with so many amazing people using tools like this. Wow!

Sacha,

great presentation!

I just posted it on my blog to help my baby boomer bosses understand what my blog is all about.
