About me

I’m Sacha Chua. I am currently:

  • An Enterprise 2.0 consultant at IBM – I help companies and people learn how to use Web 2.0 tools such as blogs, wikis, and social bookmarking in order to be more productive and to collaborate more effectively
  • A technology evangelist who can’t help but infect people with enthusiasm about interesting technologies that they might find useful–and how they can get started
  • A storyteller, because the best way to influence people to change is to tell them stories about other people, about what they could do, and about how to get there
  • An application developer at IBM working with Drupal and PHP in  my day job,
  • A blogger who tries to write down everything possible because (a) it helps me think more clearly, (b) I’m probably going to need it again, and (c) it may help someone else along the way
  • A doodler sketching on a Cintiq tablet
  • A booksnake (not bookworm!) who devours almost a book a day – thank goodness for public libraries
  • A geek fiddling with a book about the Emacs text editor and dabbling in Emacs Lisp and PHP programming in my spare time,
  • A supporter of public libraries and microfinance institutions who believes in education, entrepreneurship and capacity-building
  • A personal finance geek who enjoys balancing books and tweaking systems, but doesn’t bother with trading (just index funds, thank you)
  • A Filipino living in Toronto who hasn’t quite gotten the hang of winter yet, but is trying
  • 26 years old and loving life
  • … and many other things

I have also been:

  • A teacher of computer science at the university level – I loved teaching the introductory courses because I enjoyed convincing freshmen than computer science was actually fun
  • A professional fire dancer (poi), because my sister taught me and then dragged me along on her gigs
  • A fiction writer specializing in flash fiction (really short short stories)
  • An open source maintainer of the Planner personal information manager and the Remember module, both for Emacs
  • An open source contributor to projects like Emacs Relay Chat and the Compaq iPaq Linux bootloader
  • … and many other things
