No talent in the Philippines?

| issues, philippines

SpecOps Labs thinks there's not enough IT talent in the Philippines.

What a totally bogus excuse. You have no idea how angry that makes me.
I'm going to rant about it at length today, but I'm going to post this
in advance so that you can respond on your own blogs. E-mail me or use
the feedback form so that I can link to your entry.

Hi Sacha,

My name is Xavier Villagonzalo. I'm originally from the Philippines but I'm currently based in Brisbane, Australia studying information technology at Queensland University of Technology.

I'm really happy to have found your site as you were made as a good example by our professor here at the university for my Enterprise 2.0 class under Dr. Jason Watson. I'm just really surprised yet very happy to learn that you are from the Philippines as well. As you know, I'm the only Filipino in the class, some are from other western countries, few Asians and a handful of Australians of course.

Learning that you are from the Philippines too gives me a different pride. I look forward to reading your posts. I know now that you're Canada-based but still it gives me a different sense of pride that you come from the same home country.

I have finished a semester with a unit on Web 2.0 under the same able & very credible professor and now currently doing Enterprise 2.0 as another this semester. I wrote about Web 2.0 applications under that category. I would really love to hear from you, please feel free to drop me a line by hopefully leaving a comment on my blog, if only possible. Or just drop by my blog at http://blogITxavier.wordpre...

And oh, I'm from Dumaguete City by the way. Your feedback is really much appreciated.

Thank you for reading,

Mabuhay!

Xavier: Good to hear from you! How long ago did you move to Australia? I remember it was difficult for me to adjust to living in Canada (winter! no barkada! far from family!). I learned a lot of things that made the transition a bit easier. I still miss home, but this is becoming a second home. =) Hope you're settling into yours well!

Thanks Sacha! I know what you mean. I wouldn't say it was easy adjusting either. Good thing there are friends especially Pinoys who helped me fine-tuned my adjustment here in Brisbane. Although, I still miss home, but like you said the city has become a new home to me as well.

But time will tell when I have really really settled well. It's been a year and a half yet whilst here in the Land Down Under.

Really a pleasure to meet you! :)
