I noticed that you mention 'tumblesocks'. I'm trying to get it towork but to no avail. I run into a unibyte problem. There's not much documentation available. Can it be that tumblesocks only works with older versions of emacs? I'm on 28.2 on debian.

I haven't used it myself, but maybe you can create an issue on https://github.com/gcr/tumb... ?
