There's a lot of buzz around the remote code execution thing that involves Git, but it seems to be more of a Git issue than an Emacs one. This might be a workaround if you want, and in the meantime, don't check out git repositories you don't trust. There's no page for the Emacs Carnival for April yet, but you can start thinking about the theme of "newbies/starter kits" already, and I'm sure Cena or someone will round things up afterwards. Enjoy!

It's not too late to write about mistakes and misconceptions as part of the Emacs Carnival for March and not too early to think about the theme of "Newbies/Starter Kits" which Cena will be hosting for April. Who knows, maybe those ideas can become part of the newcomers presets. It could be fun to explore something like notes for Emacs beginners and see where you end up.

Also, I'm looking forward to seeing if these tips for reloading Emacs Lisp code can help me avoid little bugs from leftover code.

Enjoy!

: Removed elecxzy comment-dwim, whoops.

Might be a good opportunity to set up better auto-saves, with buffer-guardian.el inspiring an update to super-save 0.5. Also, there were a couple of interesting experiments embedding Chromium (Reddit) or native macOS views in Emacs (Reddit), and one about embedding Emacs in a webpage (Reddit).

Security reminder: If you use kubernetes-el, don't update for now, and you might want to check your installation if you updated it recently. The repo was compromised. (Analysis, Reddit discussion, lobste.rs) If you use Emacs 31, please consider enabling package-review-policy.

There were a number of lively conversations around Emacs Solo (142 comments on HN), Emacs and Vim in the age of AI (52 comments on Reddit, 138 on HN), and agent-shell 0.47 (62 on Reddit). Also, Prot has posted the video and text of his talk Computing in freedom with GNU Emacs (YouTube 42:40, Video with Q&A, more links in the community section).

If you use kubernetes-el, don't update for now, and you might want to check your installation if you updated it recently. The repo was compromised a few days ago.

I've occasionally wanted to tangle a single Org Mode source block to multiple places, so I'm glad to hear that ob-tangle has just added support for multiple targets. Niche, but could be handy. I'm also curious about using clime to write command-line tools in Emacs Lisp that handle argument parsing and all the usual stuff.

If you're looking for something to write about, why not try this month's Emacs Carnival theme of mistakes and misconceptions?

Enjoy!

Hello folks! Last month's Emacs Carnival about completion had 17 posts (nice!), and Philip Kaludercic is hosting this month's Emacs Carnival: Mistakes and Misconceptions. Looking forward to reading your thoughts!

: Added m-x.app examples, moved el-init to AI category, added retrospective link.

Org Mode is a big part of why I enjoy Emacs, so I'm delighted that there's a new release out (Org 9.8). Thanks to all who contributed! If you would like to help out, Ihor is looking for several volunteers who can try to reproduce bugs and do initial feedback on the new patches.
