Weekly review: Week ending April 30, 2021

  • ox-11ty:
    • I added inherited tags to ox-11ty.
    • I modified ox-11ty to copy images to the post directory.
  • Emacs:
    • I figured out how to use Consult to retrieve my journal entries asynchronously.
  • Garden:
    • We're experimenting with different planters for the strawberries. W- bored 2 1/4"-inch holes into a plastic planter, and I sewed grow bags for the strawberries using landscape fabric.
    • W- dug up the edging in the garden.
  • Other:
    • I pinged Jane about the Georgi order. It turned out that it might not actually have gotten shipped, so she's getting that sorted out.
    • I made a fabric flower.
    • We brought the plants in because we're expecting heavy winds and some snow.
  • Plover and stenography:
    • I figured out how to poke around Plover's source and how to fix plover_websocket_server so that it wouldn't chomp my last character.
    • I wrote some code to control Plover from Emacs via the plover engine server plugin.
    • I'm still in the stage of reading a gazillion books out loud to A-. I've been sneakily using it as first-letter-of-words steno practice with the hand that's not pointing to what I'm reading, which has the side benefit of slowing my reading down so that it's easier for her to understand things. Mwahaha!

  • I fixed some of my blog pages. I replaced my feeds.sachachua.com/sachac, sachac-weekly, and sachac-yearly feeds with redirects to my static feeds.
  • I reviewed a number of my old blog posts.
  • I sewed another long dress for A-.

Weekly review: Week ending April 16, 2021

  • I switched my blog from Wordpress to 11ty. I figured out how to post to 11ty from an Org Mode file in the right directory, and I set up redirects for my categories and feeds using an Nginx map.
  • I got org2blog to work with my special blocks. Now I can post with multiple columns.
  • I realized that I'd gotten overexcited about setting the plants out, so I took many of them back in and I put covers on the seedlings still outside.
  • I filed our taxes.

Weekly review: Week ending April 9, 2021

  • I figured out how to asynchronously tangle and compile my Emacs configuration.
  • I tweaked my shortcuts for inserting the latest screenshot into my Org file.
  • I added my first ligature and my first contextual substitution to my font.
  • The code I wrote to update my journal from Emacs makes it pretty easy to use Orgzly to capture keywords throughout the day, flesh them out during my inbox review, and post them or update them. That means I should be able to continue to take notes even if I'm offline for an extended period of time.
  • Pretty good progress on emotion regulation! So neat to see.

Weekly review: Week ending April 2, 2021

  • I converted A-‘s old dress and skirt into a floor-length dress.
  • I sketched a few more plants and animals from “Illustration School: Let's Draw Plants and Small Animals.”
  • I dusted off my font-making workflow and started to figure out how to run things again. I was able to load the glyphs I drew in Concepts and kern them.
  • I wrote some Emacs Lisp code to extract paths or groups to individual SVGs in preparation for updating my font.
  • I attended the Emacs SF meetup. I also sorted out my announcement code.
  • I started playing around with Lispy. I used it when writing something to convert Youtube captions into an Org table.

Weekly review: Week ending March 26, 2021

  • Emacs:
    • I added the ability to expand all, collapse all, and toggle visibility of headings in my exported HTML.
    • I learned how to use org-special-blocks' defblock for Org special blocks.
    • I added a preview to my consult function for reading a sketch filename.
  • Other tech:
    • I removed the search form and sidebar from my blog. I added night mode.
    • It turns out my laptop has 8 GB of RAM. That might have something to do with the CPU load with OBS – maybe it's swapping? I looked at the prices for 16GB RAM kits, but I might still want to upgrade my laptop in order to have more screen choices and CPU power.
    • I started looking into the GEDCOM export from Geni, and I noticed that it was incomplete. I may have to manually re-enter the ones that other people put in.
  • Gardening:
    • W- and I moved the garden cage to the deck. I planted peas, calendula, and radishes in the planter outside. I started a small pot of pumpkin seeds.
    • I made sliding doors based on the LEGO Technic idea book we borrowed from the library.
  • Drawing:
    • I tried sketching in both Concepts and Procreate. They're both nice.
    • I practised sketching plants and insects following “Illustration School: Let's Draw Plants and Small Creatures.”
    • I modified my sketch viewer to handle SVGs. I figured out how to sketch with a dark background and change the colours for posting.
  • I sewed two long dresses and a bonnet for A-. I also sewed a pair of pajama pants for myself.

Weekly review: Week ending March 19, 2021

  • I pulled the other meetups' iCal feeds in automatically.
  • I added announcement timers for upcoming Emacs events.
  • I listened to the EmacsSF meetup on retro Emacs.
  • I experimented with fast ffmpeg cuts in Emacs, compensating for the distance between keyframes.
  • I submitted some tests for subed.el.
  • I tried streaming again, but I think OBS was taking up too much CPU and it made my computer a little too unresponsive. I'll try streaming from OBS to Twitch instead of using ffmpeg to multicast next time.
  • I wrote about my word-level timing code.
  • I edited a few more subtitles.
